Greetings 9E Families,

Thank you so much for the warm welcome back.  Thank you for everything you’ve done over the past few weeks to support our teachers and our young learners.  I’d like to take this opportunity to share some exciting information about the school year.

Each year, our school identifies a theme to help focus our initiatives and efforts.  This year, our theme is POSSIBILITIES!  At the core of this theme is goal setting and action planning.  The possibilities for all of our students are truly endless.  This applies to all aspects of their school day, including academics, the arts, behavior and more.  Our teachers and staff will be guiding students in setting goals and developing action plans to attain and even exceed these goals.  As parents and guardians, your partnership is essential in bringing our theme to life and helping our students succeed.

We have a great deal of exciting initiatives on the horizon.  Our Morning Meetings will continue to be an opportunity for our school community to get together to bring our theme to life.  You will be receiving this year’s Morning Meeting calendar shortly.  In addition, student leaders will continue to cultivate our school’s indoor garden and help our school community learn about healthy habits.  We will continue to work with the wonderful 9E PTA to provide worthwhile Cultural Arts opportunities throughout the year.  The young leaders in our Student Council will be organizing many more events and initiatives to support our school community.

At Back to School Night, our teachers provided valuable information about our rigorous curricula.  I’m sure you’ve already seen the positive impacts of these programs on your young learners.  The Envisions math program, supplemented by Exemplars problem solving, presents our students with challenging content that emphasizes critical thinking and conceptual understanding.  Teachers College Reading and Writing continues to inspire our students to love authentic literature and view themselves as authors.  Our literacy program is bolstered by the Fundations phonics program in grades 1 and 2.  I encourage all parents and guardians to review the Trimester 1 Curriculum Snapshots that were distributed during Back to School Night.  They provide a broader overview of the key concepts students will be learning.

In closing, I’d like to leave you all with our school’s collective mission and vision statements.  These statements will continue to guide all that we do as a school community.  I can’t wait to see what we accomplish together!
