Greetings 9E Families,
I hope you have all had an amazing summer vacation full of quality family time. I hope our young learners
have had the opportunity to pick up a few good books and play as much as possible. It’s hard to believe
that these two months have flown by so quickly. We are so excited to welcome you back to 9E for another
exciting school year.
I’m thrilled to announce that our theme for this year is RESPONSIBILITY. There are many facets to this
theme. Responsibility is critical to students’ success in so many areas of their lives, from their social
interactions to their academic growth. It is essential that students learn the importance of responsibility
both in school and at home. Throughout the year, we will take many opportunities to highlight the
importance of this theme in our classrooms and beyond. From helping to keep their classroom clean to
showing kindness to their peers, students have a great deal of responsibilities to fulfill each day. As one
school community, we will work to help students understand that responsibility is a good thing. Together,
we can help to make our school the best it can be. We will help students embrace the genuine sense of
accomplishment and pride that comes when we fulfill our responsibilities.
This year, we will continue to maintain high academic standards across all subject areas. In the area of
English Language Arts, we will continue to promote foundational reading skills and a genuine love of
reading. With our robust classroom libraries and school library, students will be exposed to a wide range
of genres, authors and topics. In mathematics, students will develop their procedural and conceptual
understanding while learning to think critically. In social studies, students will learn about the world
around them and the complexity of human interactions. In science, students will learn how to use the scientific method to explore phenomena and evaluate theories. Students will continue to receive a well-
balanced experience with our special area classes including FLES, art, physical education, music, library, makerspace and health. Students will continue to have access to technology with our 1:1 Chromebook
initiative. You’ll have the opportunity to find out more about our extensive curricular offerings at Back to
School Night on September 19th.
.
On behalf of the entire 9E staff, we are so excited to open our doors to our young learners on September
3rd. Along with this letter, please find our “Important Information” document. Please don’t hesitate to
contact the main office you have any questions prior to the start of the school year. Enjoy the remainder
of the summer and be well.
Sincerely,
Mr. McPherson
